THE HALLWAY · TUESDAY · 8:52 AM

A twelve-year-old stops mid-hallway. That's her name on the screen.

Not for a test score. For who she is. Mr. Nowak noticed. Today it's her turn in the spotlight.

"Wait, that's me. He actually noticed that?"

✦✦A TRUE STORY

Before Ovation was software, it was a spreadsheet in a real school.

Teachers logged the good they saw; winners went up on the wall. Students checked the list obsessively. Then one girl was recognised by a teacher she was certain disliked her, and was found crying in the hallway. Happy tears.

Not "task completed." Someone was seen.

THE PARENT MEETING

Read a parent everything the building has seen in their kid.

One page, in each teacher's own words.

"The meeting changes the moment you start reading. Every time."— Shaun Lafferty, Principal
THE STAFF ROOM

Give teachers somewhere to put the good, and they start hunting for it.

Catch them being good — now it has somewhere to go.

"I walk my room differently now. I'm looking for something to celebrate."

Not just teachers. The custodian sees what teachers can't.

THE NUMBER THAT MATTERS MOST

The quiet kids are the easiest to miss. Ovation was built for them.

Ovation notices which students haven't been celebrated yet this month and gives them a gold halo right in the picker, impossible to miss. Not a report for the office. A gentle prompt.

The goal isn't a leaderboard. It's every student recognised at least once by June.

YOUR SCHOOL, EVERYWHERE

Your colours. Your mascot. Automatically.

When a kid holds a certificate with their mascot on it, it isn't a printout — it's their school saying it's proud of them. And it goes up on the fridge.

WHAT GETS NOTICED GETS REPEATED.

Teachers have known it forever. The research agrees.

A student, moments after being noticed. Artist's rendering.
Specific praise changes behaviour

Naming exactly what a student did is one of the best-supported classroom practices.1

More praise, better classrooms

Raising the ratio of positive interactions measurably lifted on-task behaviour, most of all for the hardest-to-reach kids.2

Belonging carries everything

Belonging predicts achievement, attendance, and wellbeing. Being seen by a teacher is one of its strongest predictors.3

1. Royer et al., 2019, review of behaviour-specific praise · 2. Cook et al., 2017, positive-to-negative interaction ratios · 3. Allen et al., 2018, meta-analysis of school belonging

THEN COMES JUNE

End the year with every student recognised, and the teachers who did it up on stage.
